Immunohistochemistry

IHC, or Immunohistochemistry, is a technique used to analyze frozen breast cancer tissue obtained during a biopsy. It determines whether cancer cells have HER2 receptors and/or hormone receptors on their surface. The enzyme or dye is activated after the antibodies bind to the antigen in the tissue sample, and the antigen can then be seen under a microscope. Immunohistochemistry is primarily used to aid in the diagnosis of cancer. It may also be used to distinguish between different types of cancer.
